Selection Process of Assam Police Constable Recruitment 2026
So, the whole selection journey for the Assam Police Constable Recruitment 2026 isn’t a quick one. Candidates who submit their online forms properly will go through multiple stages — starting with physical rounds and ending with a written test and Viva-Voce. And yeah, if someone turns up with any serious physical deformity detected during testing, they’ll be disqualified right there.
Preliminary Document Verification
Anyone arriving at the venue for the PST (Physical Standard Test) & PET (Physical Efficiency Test) has to bring all the original documents they uploaded during the online application, plus a set of self-attested photocopies. No late submissions are entertained — once the PET & PST are over, that’s it.
If a candidate can’t produce the required originals on the spot, there won’t be a second chance. Whatever documents exist at that time will decide their status.
Physical Efficiency Test (PET)
Honestly, this stage is the real filter. Candidates have to meet the minimum physical benchmark set in the recruitment rules. Here’s the breakup:
Race Requirements
| Gender | Distance | Time Limit |
|---|---|---|
| Male | 3200 metres | 14 minutes |
| Female | 1600 metres | 8 minutes |
Long Jump
| Gender | Distance | Attempts |
|---|---|---|
| Male | 335 cm | 3 |
| Female | 244 cm | 3 |
Chin-Up Test (Only Male Candidates)
| Chin-Ups | Marks |
|---|---|
| Less than 4 | Disqualified |
| 4 | 10 |
| 5 | 11 |
| 6 | 12 |
| 7 | 13 |
| 8 | 14 |
| 9 | 15 |
| 10 | 16 |
| 11 | 17 |
| 12 | 18 |
| 13 | 19 |
| 14 | 20 |
PET marks for Constable AB will later be converted to percentages for final merit.
Medical Examination
After clearing PET, candidates meet a Medical & Health Officer who checks overall health as per set standards. Issues like major deformities, poor vision, color blindness, varicose veins, knock-knee, flat foot, diabetes, respiratory issues, etc., can lead to rejection.
Physical Standard Test (PST)
PST isn’t graded — it’s just measurement and verification. Officials check:
Height
Chest (for male applicants only)
Weight
They also verify physical fitness through tests like eyes, knee shape, foot shape, etc.
Failing the measurement means the candidate is out immediately.
Written Test
Candidates shortlisted after PET appear for the written exam, typically five times the number of available posts. For Assam Police Constable Recruitment 2026, the written structure looks like this:
100 MCQs on OMR sheet
Total: 50 marks
0.5 marks per correct answer
No negative marking
Questions based on Class 9–10 level
Available languages: Assamese / Bodo / Bengali / English
Subjects Covered
Elementary Arithmetic
General English
Logical Reasoning & Mental Ability
Assam History, Geography, Polity, Economy
General Knowledge & Current Affairs
Oral / Viva-Voce
Finally, twice the number of vacancies are called for interview based on PET + Written Test marks. This round evaluates communication, confidence, and basic field understanding.
