Selection Process of Assam Police Recruitment Notification 2026

The whole selection routine for Assam Police jobs is pretty structured, and honestly, it moves step by step. Candidates who submit proper applications will be called first for the Physical Standard Test (PST) and Physical Efficiency Test (PET). One thing to keep in mind—if the Medical Officer on-site notices any physical deformity, the candidate gets disqualified right there and won’t be allowed for the rest of the tests. A bit strict, but that’s how these things usually go.

If you’re applying for posts other than Constable, just double-check the official notification because some details vary a little.

Preliminary Document Verification

On the day you report for PST and PET, you’ve got to bring every original document you uploaded during your online application. Plus, carry a set of self-attested photocopies. They don’t accept anything after the PET & PST is done, and the documents must be issued on or before the last date of the online form submission.

If someone forgets a document or doesn’t show it when asked—yeah, there’s no second chance. Whatever you manage to present on that day is what they’ll consider, and that’s final.

Physical Efficiency Test (PET)

The PET is basically your fitness showcase. It includes the race, long jump, and (for male candidates) chin-ups.

Race Requirements

GenderDistanceTime
Male3200 meters14 minutes
Female1600 meters8 minutes

Long Jump Requirements

GenderMinimum DistanceChances
Male335 cm3
Female244 cm3

Chin-Ups (Male Only)
Marks are assigned depending on how many chin-ups you manage:

612
713
814
915

Medical Examination

Once you clear the PET, you’ll be examined by a Medical & Health Officer. They check everything listed under the Medical Standards—basic health, eyesight, and other physical conditions.

Physical Standard Test (PST)

After the medical round, candidates go through the PST. No marks here—this is purely qualifying. They measure height, weight, and for males, chest expansion. Then comes a quick check for things like knock knees, flat feet, varicose veins, color blindness, vision problems, and any noticeable deformities. It’s simple but thorough.

Written Test

After the PET, candidates who rank high enough will get called for the written exam—five times the number of available posts. For Constable (AB), PET marks are converted into percentage form.

A quick rundown of the written test:

  • Total Questions: 100 (MCQ type)

  • Total Marks: 50

  • Marking Scheme: 0.5 mark for each correct answer

  • Negative Marking: None

  • Difficulty Level: Class IX–X standard

  • Languages Available: Assamese, Bodo, Bengali, English

Subjects Covered

  • Elementary Arithmetic

  • General English

  • Logical Reasoning & Mental Ability

  • Assam’s History, Geography, Polity, Economy

  • General Knowledge & Current Affairs

Oral / Viva-Voce

This is the final round. Candidates are called in at a ratio of 2 times the total vacancies, based purely on their combined PET and Written Test marks. It’s basically the last checkpoint before the final merit list.
