- The student’s age should be born before 1st May 2012 and after 30th April 2014 (inclusive of both dates).
- Students appearing in class V for the session 2023-24 can apply, but they must qualify the final examination of class V.

Age Limit: The candidate must have been born between 1st May 2012 and 31st July 2014 (both dates inclusive). This age limit applies to candidates from all categories, including Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST), and Other Backward Classes (OBC).
Educational Qualification: The candidate appearing for the selection test must be studying in Class V for the entire academic session 2023-24 in a Government/Government-aided or other recognized school in the same district where they are seeking admission. Alternatively, they should have completed the ‘B’ certificate competency course of the National Institute of Open Schooling in the same district.
Location: Only candidates who are bonafide residents of the district where the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya is located and currently studying in Class V in the same district are eligible to apply for admission.
Rural Quota: For candidates seeking admission under the rural quota, it is necessary to have studied and passed Classes III, IV, and V from a government/government-aided/recognized school, spending one full academic session each year in a school located in a rural area. A minimum of 75% of the seats in a district will be filled by candidates selected from rural areas of the district. The remaining seats will be filled from urban areas of the district.
Number of Attempts: No candidate is eligible to appear for the selection test for the second time under any circumstances.
A candidate seeking admission under the rural quota must have studied in Classes III, IV, and V, completing the full academic session from government/government-aided/government-recognized schools located in rural areas. Additionally, the candidate should have completed the full academic session in Class V in a rural area in the same district where admission is sought.
