Selection Process of Railway Group D Recruitment 2026

The RRB Group D Recruitment 2026 selection process is conducted in multiple structured stages to ensure fair and transparent recruitment for Level 1 posts in Indian Railways. Candidates must qualify in each stage to move forward in the recruitment process. The complete selection procedure consists of the following stages:

1. Computer Based Test (CBT)

2. Physical Efficiency Test (PET)

3. Document Verification (DV)

4. Medical Examination (ME)

Computer Based Test (CBT) – RRB Group D Recruitment 2026

The Computer Based Test (CBT) is the first stage of the Railway Group D Recruitment process. This test is conducted for all eligible candidates to assess their basic knowledge, aptitude, and awareness.

• Exam Duration: 90 Minutes

• Question Type: Objective (Multiple Choice Questions)

• Total Questions: 100

• Total Marks: 100

CBT Exam Pattern

Negative Marking

Negative marking is applicable in the CBT. One-third (1/3) mark will be deducted for every incorrect answer, which plays a crucial role in determining merit.

Minimum Qualifying Cut-Off Marks

The minimum percentage of marks required for shortlisting candidates community-wise is as follows:

• UR: 40%

• EWS: 40%

• OBC (Non-Creamy Layer): 30%

• SC: 30%

• ST: 30%

For PwBD candidates, the minimum qualifying marks may be relaxed by 2 marks if there is a shortage of eligible PwBD candidates against reserved vacancies.

Syllabus for RRB Group D CBT 2026

The RRB Group D CBT syllabus is based on the 10th standard level and covers the following subjects:

Mathematics

Number System, BODMAS, Decimals, Fractions, LCM, HCF, Ratio and Proportion, Percentages, Mensuration, Time and Work, Time and Distance, Simple and Compound Interest, Profit and Loss, Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, Elementary Statistics, Square Root, Age Problems, Calendar and Clock, Pipes and Cistern, and related topics.

General Intelligence and Reasoning

Analogies, Alphabetical and Number Series, Coding and Decoding, Mathematical Operations, Relationships, Syllogism, Jumbling, Venn Diagrams, Data Interpretation and Sufficiency, Conclusions and Decision Making, Similarities and Differences, Analytical Reasoning, Classification, Direction Sense, Statements and Arguments, Statements and Assumptions, and other reasoning concepts.

General Science

This section includes questions from Physics, Chemistry, and Life Sciences based on the 10th standard CBSE syllabus.

General Awareness and Current Affairs

Questions will cover current affairs related to Science and Technology, Sports, Culture, Important Personalities, Economics, Politics, and other subjects of national and international importance.

Physical Efficiency Test (PET) – Railway Group D Recruitment

Candidates shortlisted based on their performance in the CBT will be called for the Physical Efficiency Test (PET). The number of candidates invited for PET will be three times the community-wise total vacancies notified against each RRB/RRC. However, Indian Railways reserves the right to modify this ratio if required to ensure an adequate number of candidates.

PET Standards

Important Note:
Qualifying the Physical Efficiency Test (PET) is mandatory. PET is qualifying in nature only, and no marks are awarded for this stage.

Document Verification (DV) and Empanelment

Candidates who qualify in CBT and PET will be called for Document Verification (DV). The number of candidates invited for DV will be equal to the number of notified vacancies, maintaining a 1:1 ratio.

Tie-Breaking Criteria

In case two or more candidates secure the same normalized percentile score in CBT:

1. The older candidate will be placed higher in the merit list.

2. If age is also the same, merit will be decided based on alphabetical order (A to Z) of the candidate’s name.

Medical Examination (ME)

Final appointment under RRB Group D Recruitment 2026 is strictly subject to:

• Qualifying the prescribed Medical Fitness Test conducted by Railway Administration

• Final verification of educational qualifications and community certificates

• Verification of character, antecedents, and eligibility as per Indian Railways rules
