The Sainik School Admission 2026 process has officially started with the AISSEE 2026 Notification released by the National Testing Agency (NTA). This entrance exam, known as the All India Sainik Schools Entrance Examination (AISSEE 2026), will be conducted for admission into Class VI and Class IX in 33 Sainik Schools across India for the academic session 2026–2027.
These prestigious Sainik Schools are English-medium residential institutions affiliated with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and are managed by the Sainik Schools Society under the Ministry of Defence. The primary aim of these schools is to prepare young cadets for entry into the National Defence Academy (NDA), Indian Naval Academy (INA), and other premier military training institutions.

AISSEE 2026 Admission Details
The Sainik School Admission 2026 is open for both boys and girls who meet the eligibility conditions for Class 6 and Class 9 admissions. Candidates will be admitted based on their performance in the AISSEE 2026 entrance examination, which will be held on 18th January 2026.
Sainik School Reservation Policy
67% of seats are reserved for candidates domiciled in the state or union territory where the respective Sainik School is located.
33% of seats are reserved for candidates from other states and union territories.
Standard reservation for SC, ST, and OBC (NCL) categories is applicable as per the Government of India guidelines.
AISSEE 2026 Exam Duration
Class VI: 150 minutes (2 hours 30 minutes)
Class IX: 180 minutes (3 hours)
The AISSEE question paper will be designed to test the candidate’s aptitude in Mathematics, Intelligence, General Knowledge, and Language.
Eligibility Criteria for Sainik School Admission 2026
Candidates applying for Sainik School Admission 2026 must satisfy the following eligibility conditions:
For Class VI Admission
The student must be between 10 and 12 years old as on 31st March 2026.
The date of birth must fall between 1st April 2014 and 31st March 2016 (both dates inclusive).
Admission for girls is also open for Class VI.
For Class IX Admission
The student must be between 13 and 15 years old as on 31st March 2026.
The date of birth should fall between 1st April 2011 and 31st March 2013 (both dates inclusive).
The candidate must have passed Class VIII from a recognized school.
Girls can also apply for Class IX subject to availability of seats.
AISSEE 2026 Application Fee
Candidates applying for AISSEE 2026 are required to pay the examination fee online.

AISSEE 2026 Qualifying Marks
To qualify for Sainik School Admission 2026, candidates must meet the following minimum criteria:
Candidates must score at least 25% marks in each subject and 40% aggregate marks overall in the AISSEE 2026.
Final admission will depend on e-counselling, medical fitness, and verification of documents.
However:
No minimum qualifying marks are prescribed for candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste (SC) or Scheduled Tribe (ST) categories. These candidates will be admitted based on inter-se merit within their category, provided they meet the eligibility requirements and are medically fit.
If any SC/ST/OBC (NCL) candidate secures a place in the general merit list, they will be admitted against unreserved seats and not counted under their category quota.
