Education Qualification of Chauffeur & MTS Vacancy 2026
Chauffeur (Driver)
Candidates must fulfill the following eligibility requirements:
- Must have passed HSLC (Class X) or equivalent examination from a recognized Board.
- Must possess a valid LMV (Light Motor Vehicle) Driving Licence issued by the competent authority.
- Must have a valid Employment Exchange Registration Number issued in the State of Assam.
Multi Tasking Staff (MTS)
Candidates must satisfy the following conditions:
- Must have passed Class VIII (8th Standard).
- Candidates who have passed Higher Secondary (HSSLC/12th) or any higher qualification are not eligible to apply.
- Candidates possessing special skills may be given preference depending on the requirement.
- A valid Employment Exchange Registration Number issued in Assam is mandatory.
Important Note: Applicants for the MTS post must declare in the application form that they possess the minimum qualification of Class VIII but have not passed HSSLC (12th) or above. Suppression of higher educational qualifications may result in rejection of the application and legal action.

Selection Process
The selection process differs for each post.
Chauffeur (Driver)
Stage I – Screening Test
- Objective Type Written Examination (OMR Based)
- Duration: 1 Hour
- Total Marks: 50
Subjects:
- Road Sign Recognition – 20 Marks
- General Knowledge – 20 Marks
- Assamese Language Proficiency – 10 Marks (Qualifying)
Candidates must secure at least 5 out of 10 marks in the Assamese language section to qualify.
Stage II – Driving Test
Qualified candidates will appear for a Driving Test consisting of:
- Starting
- Driving
- Parking
- After Driving
Each segment carries 10 marks, making a total of 40 marks.
Candidates must obtain 20 out of 40 marks (50%) to qualify.
Stage III – Interview / Viva-Voce
- Total Marks: 20
- Minimum Qualifying Marks: 12 (60%)
Final Merit
The final merit list will be prepared based on the combined marks obtained in the Driving Test and Interview. In case of a tie, preference will be given to candidates securing higher marks in the Driving Test, followed by the older candidate.
Multi Tasking Staff (MTS)
Stage I – Written Examination
- OMR-Based Objective Examination
- Duration: 1½ Hours
- Total Marks: 70
Subjects include:
- General Knowledge & Current Affairs
- General English
- General Mathematics (Class VIII Standard)
- Assamese Language Proficiency (20 Marks – Qualifying)
Candidates must secure 8 out of 20 marks in the Assamese language section to qualify.
Stage II – Interview / Viva-Voce
- Total Marks: 20
- Minimum Qualifying Marks: 12 (60%)
Final Merit
The final selection will be based on the combined marks obtained in the Written Examination and Interview. If two candidates secure equal marks, preference will be given to the candidate obtaining higher marks in the Written Examination. If the tie still persists, the older candidate will be ranked higher.
