IBPS PO Recruitment 2026 Eligibility Criteria
Candidates applying for the IBPS PO/MT-XVI recruitment process must ensure that they satisfy the eligibility conditions prescribed by IBPS on the specified dates. Merely applying for the recruitment process, qualifying in the examinations, or being provisionally allotted to a participating bank does not guarantee appointment in any participating bank.
Candidates must produce original documents along with photocopies in support of their identity, category, nationality, age and educational qualifications during the interview and subsequent stages of the recruitment process.
Nationality Criteria
A candidate must be either:
- A Citizen of India, or
- A subject of Nepal, or
- A subject of Bhutan, or
- A Tibetan Refugee who came to India before 1 January 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India, or
- A person of Indian origin who migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia or Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India.
Candidates belonging to categories other than Indian citizens mentioned above must possess a certificate of eligibility issued by the Government of India.

Important Notes on Age Relaxation
- The upper age relaxation for SC/ST/OBC candidates can be combined with only one of the other eligible relaxation categories where applicable.
- The upper age limit of 30 years applies to General and EWS category candidates.
- Candidates seeking age relaxation must produce the required certificates during the interview and subsequent stages of recruitment.
Reservation for Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD)
Reservation for Persons with Benchmark Disabilities is provided under the provisions of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016.
The following disability categories are eligible under the notification:
- Visual Impairment (VI)
- Hearing Impaired (HI)
- Orthopedically Challenged/Locomotor Disability (OC/LD)
- Intellectual Disability (ID)
- Multiple Disabilities
Only candidates having not less than 40% specified disability and possessing a valid disability certificate issued by the competent authority are eligible for reservation benefits under the PwBD category.
PwBD candidates may also be subjected to verification of disability certificates and UDID cards through the concerned authorities.
Economically Weaker Section (EWS) Reservation
Candidates not covered under SC, ST and OBC reservation categories and whose family has a gross annual income below ₹8 lakh may be eligible for EWS reservation subject to fulfilment of other prescribed conditions.
However, candidates whose families possess any of the following assets shall not be considered under EWS irrespective of income:
- Agricultural land of 5 acres or more.
- Residential flat measuring 1000 square feet or more.
- Residential plot of 100 square yards or more in notified municipalities.
- Residential plot of 200 square yards or more in areas other than notified municipalities.
For EWS candidates, the Income and Asset Certificate must be valid for the year 2026-27 for the financial year 2025-26.
Educational Qualification
Candidates must possess:
- A Degree (Graduation) in any discipline from a University recognised by the Government of India, or
- Any equivalent qualification recognised by the Central Government.
The candidate must possess a valid mark sheet or degree certificate proving that he or she is a graduate on the date of online registration and must indicate the percentage of marks obtained in graduation while applying online.
Important Educational Qualification Conditions
- The educational qualification must be obtained from a University, Institution or Board recognised by the Government of India or approved by Government regulatory bodies.
- The final result must have been declared on or before 21 July 2026.
- Candidates awarded CGPA or OGPA must convert their grades into percentage as per the norms of their respective university or institution.
- Documentary proof regarding the conversion formula must be produced during the interview or document verification process if required.

IBPS has stated that the descriptive paper may be evaluated using an automated scoring mechanism for identifying writing proficiency features.
IBPS PO Personality Test 2026
Candidates qualifying in the Main Examination will be called for a Personality Test.
- The Personality Test will be based on self-reporting.
- The personality profile of candidates will be placed before the interview panel.
- The Personality Test is non-qualifying in nature.
- Appearing in the Personality Test is mandatory to become eligible for the Interview process.
- The test may be conducted in proctored mode or at identified examination centres as decided by IBPS.
Negative Marking
Negative marking will be applicable in both Preliminary and Main objective examinations.
- For every incorrect answer, 0.25 marks (one-fourth of the marks assigned to that question) will be deducted.
- No penalty will be imposed for unanswered questions.
IBPS PO Cut-Off Criteria
For the Main Examination:
- Candidates must secure minimum marks in each test.
- Candidates must also secure the minimum aggregate score decided by IBPS.
- Based on vacancies and cut-off marks, candidates will be shortlisted for the Personality Test and Interview.
IBPS has clarified that only the marks obtained in the Main Examination will be considered for shortlisting candidates for the Personality Test and Interview and for preparation of the final merit list.
Score Normalisation
- Corrected scores obtained in different examination sessions will be normalised using the equi-percentile method.
- Scores up to two decimal places will be considered for calculation purposes.
Examination Centres
The online examinations will be conducted at various centres across India.
Important points regarding examination centres:
- No request for change of examination centre will be entertained.
- IBPS reserves the right to cancel existing centres or add new centres depending on administrative feasibility and response received.
- IBPS may allot candidates to centres other than those selected by them.
- Candidates will appear for the examination at their own risk and expense.
- Any unruly behaviour or misconduct inside the examination venue may lead to cancellation of candidature and disqualification from future IBPS examinations.
Pre-Examination Training (PET)
Pre-Examination Training may be arranged in online mode for a limited number of candidates belonging to:
- Scheduled Castes (SC)
- Scheduled Tribes (ST)
- Other Backward Classes (OBC)
- Minority Communities
Candidates who wish to avail Pre-Examination Training must select the relevant option in the online application form.
Participation in Pre-Examination Training does not provide any claim or right to selection in any participating bank.
Important Examination Instructions
Candidates will not be permitted to appear in the examination without:
- Valid call letter for the respective examination session.
- Original photo identity proof bearing the same name as mentioned in the application form and call letter.
Candidates reporting after the reporting time mentioned in the call letter will not be allowed to appear in the examination.
For the Preliminary Examination, candidates may be required to remain at the venue for approximately two hours or more including verification and other formalities.
